Overview:The purpose of this position is a key member of the design team for new product development and cost reduction projects. The position is responsible from conception to production and will support and/or lead critical aspects of the projects that are vital to the business strategy. The design team works within the Advance Product Quality Planning methodology through a Tollgate process to release products to the market.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Works with cross functional design team to develop embedded electronic control modules
  • Works with cross functional design team to develop electro-mechanical (mechatronic) products
  • Design, develop, and implement custom engineered solutions meeting customer product specifications and all industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Works with cross functional design team to reduce costs and enhance performance on standard product
  • Work within an Advanced Product Quality Planning design and release products.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Research requirements, present design options, and document results for project team or engineering management.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with customers, suppliers and consultants.
  • Effectively utilize circuit design and layout programs (Altium or similar) to create printed circuit board layout and schematic drawings for various components.
  • Conduct testing on products at different phases in the development process and provide analysis of findings. This will include setup and report writing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve product integrity issues with an appropriate sense of urgency and within required company timeframes.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to problem solving in both design work and in production issues.
  • Select and performs design calculations and supports engineering efforts on critical projects which includes: idea/ concept development, prototype evaluation, concept verification, and production design validation.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of engineering design, documentation, and bill of material for products on both a domestic and global level.
  • Assist in the design and implementation verification and validation programs to insure designs are adequate for intended purpose.
  • Communicate and behave in a professional manner that supports the mission, vision, and policies of the organization.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering plus five (5) years related Engineering experience; or
    • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering plus three (3) years related Engineering experience.
      Skills and Competencies
      • Strong skills in engineering techniques and technical writing.
      • Knowledge of engineering terms and standard engineering techniques.
      • Ability to program in embedded C
      • Experience in C++ and Python a plus
      • Able to design embedded microcontroller systems
      • Background in automotive or commercial vehicles
      • Understand automotive electronic environment and writes/executes test plans for qualification tests to SAE standards
      • Familiarity with SAE J1939 CAN communication and LIN a plus
      • Able to construct PCB layouts.
      • Proficient in the troubleshooting of hardware and software.
      • Completes and constructs technical documentation.
      • Able to perform analogue and digital simulation.
      • Proficient with hardware and software integration.
        Computers and Technology
        • Proficient in 3D CAD software and 2D drawings.
        • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
        • Familiarity with Altium Designer or similar
        • Intermediate C programming skills.
        • Intermediate command of communication protocols.
        • Basic embedded software design skills.
