DescriptionPosition Summary: This position provides leadership and supervision to 40+ associate to include the hourly workforce, Leads and Supervisors on the PM Shift. The Sr. Operations Supervisor (SOS) ensures the successful completion of each day's loading schedule. Success is measured by meeting or exceeding production metrics, meeting quality standards, and assuring compliance with safety standards. The SOS is directly responsible for production and labor planning to hit daily deadlines for trucks to leave on time and complete. They are responsible for setting and communicating performance expectations for all PM Shift departments and for all positions. Also, the SOS provides training to prepare associates to work efficiently, and may independently take corrective action up to the written warning level. They will be involved in the hiring and retention process for employees on their shift. From time-to-time, they may be asked to attend customer meetings and will be expected to regularly interact with the customer in person, via email, and on conference calls. Shift: 2nd Shift - Regular work days are Sunday - Thursday. Overtime on Fridays and Saturdays may be required based on volume spikes. The position start time is 4PM. This may change or may vary based on the volume and other responsibilities, for example: meetings, projects co-managed with AM Shift staff, safety or management training, customer meetings/calls to attend. May be required to work additional hours/shifts/days to meet business needs.Major Responsibilities:People: * Create an engaging team culture where each employee perceives they are a valued member of the team. * Communicate performance standards that are specific and measurable and counsel employees needing training. * Escalate through the company's counseling process when associates are unable to meet expectations. * Assures that employees are working in a respectful manner with peers and addresses any behavior that is inconsistent with Penske employee responsibilities. * Assist associates with getting solutions or answers to ADP, Human Resources, attendance, or other personnel issues/questions. * Interview candidates for hourly, Lead, and Supervisor positions and make recommendations for hire. * Manage fulfillment requests with temporary services agencies based on approval/a plan from the Operations Manager. * Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance measurements and provide counseling and/or recognition to associates as needed. * Write annual performance reviews for Supervisors and may write reviews for a portion of the hourly staff. Operations: * Responsible for assuring distribution orders, that are dropped daily for same-day shipment, meet the nightly deadlines. * Work with the various departments on the PM Shift to meet or beat their individual KPIs and, ultimately, meet the shift's case per labor hour (CPH) requirement weekly. * Actively use continuous improvement/Lean techniques to identify and test process improvements.* Assure quality by loading trucks according to the method that assists Drivers with unloading efficiently at each account's warehouse; ship product accurately according to the defined quality standards. * Proactively tracks and cross-trains associates to create a flexible staff that can change positions depending on the demands for each of the different PM shift functions. * Develops a thorough working knowledge of the site's operating systems. Responsible for nightly reporting, KPI trend analysis, projecting order demand, and using the system to assure inventory accuracy and research errors. Complete all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate fashion.* Reviews processes with the management staff where SOPs need to be defined and then may write SOPs and train employees to follow the guidelines.* Works with members of the Auburn management group working other shifts or from other departments to help the entire team meet the customer's expectations.* Works with Penske support departments, HR, Safety, Training, Payroll, etc. as required. Finance: * Ensures compliance with financial policies and procedures such as inventory accuracy and control, returns, damages, etc.* Understands the relationship between decision-making and profitability. Closely manage associates' working hours and activities to minimize overtime and to meet or exceed productivity targets.Safety: * Ensures day-to-day management and associates' activities are in alignment with the location's safety strategy. * Plans and ensures how associates are completing prescribed training and logs the training status for each PM Shift employee. * Provides associates with communication, training, feedback, and direction to ensure safe performance.* Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies and company policies and procedures.Growth / Customer Experience: * Understands the location-specific customer goals & objectives.* Ensures the customer knows that we are committed to helping them meet their objectives. Professional responds to requests and inquires fully and in a timely fashion.* Pursues personal leadership/management development offered by the company and actively seeks to their management skill-set. Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Manager. QualificationsDesired experience and qualifications: * 2 - 4 years related functional experience in a similar role.* High School Diploma or equivalent required.* Bachelor's Degree preferred.* Strong written/oral communication and organizational skills are required.* Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required.* Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.* Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history), and drug screening required.Physical Requirements: * The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
